Cyndi’s best album, in my opinion.
  • Not her best, but definitely worth the money.

By the time Cyndi Lauper had put out "Hat Full of Stars" in 1992, music had moved into a different direction. The flash and glimmer of most bands had been replaced by the dull and colorless grunge of alternative music. Bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam had taken over the airwaves. And the children who grew up listening to (and buying) Cyndi Lauper's stuff had all grown up and moved on. The new children were now listening to New Kids on the Block. And Cyndi Lauper's target audience wasn't the same audience anymore. Does that mean "Hat Full of Stars" is a bad album? No. It makes for a very good listen. That's What I Think, Broken Glass, A Part Hate and Who Let In The Rain are all solid songs. And most of the songs on this album have more of an soul sound to it. Something she had done on songs on previous albums as well. Like "True Colors" 6 years earlier, it has some definitely fantastic tunes on it. Unfortunately, music changes every few years and if you don't change with it, you get left behind. And that was the fate of Cyndi Lauper.

All the songs are excellent,"that's what i think"(the song is about everyday life), "who let the rain"(about the end of a relationship), Sally's Pigeons (about her chilhood friend who got pregnant, had an abortion and died), just listen the story and her voice

So here's the thing. Lauper was criticized for making this album. Her fans wanted more "Girls Just Want to Have Fun". Well guess what, this album showed how ready she was to move on and mature. I even like the production values (which were also criticized). Her voice is strong and wonderful and the songs fascinating and very pleasing to the ear - indeed. I hope she makes another one like it.

This is, simply, one of her best albums. I love every song.

i bought this as a used cassette (!!) for a quarter and it became one of my favorites. A Part Hate may be poorly named but is one of her best songs. That's What I Think, Who Let In The Rain, Broken Glass, Feels Like Christmas, and Someone Like Me are still on my play lists. And Dear John maybe took a listen or two to get used to, but it rocks. The critics must have been mad at her when this came out because there's no other excuse for the way this kind of disappeared...
  • As an album not so great...

This gets two stars just for one song "Who Let In The Rain". If you haven't heard it, download, you will love this song. Beautiful lyrics about a lost love, probably one of her best songs way underrated.
