Tambu

Tambu is a favorite of mine, but Kingdom of Desire which is not available on iTunes came before this CD. That CD rocks hard.

Steve Lukather is amazing on this album. His playing is unparalleled in general. This guy (Lukather) and this band get more respect in Europe than they do here in the US. If you're expecting hold the Line and Rosanna, buy one of their greatest hits cds. If you want solid rock and great writing, look no further than Tambu. I'm sorry Toto broke up, but Steve Lukather still goes on. See "Ever Changing Times" as an example. As for this album, there's great writing, great production and heartfelt lyrics and themes. Forget the main review. LONG LIVE LUKE!!!

I think this is Toto’s most personal Album, at the time, (1995) after the death of their drummer and brother, Jeff Porcaro (1954-1992). Their latest lead singer, at the time, Jean Michael Byron, having left the band, after recording 4 bonus tracks on the greatest hits compialation, “Past To Present 1977-1990.” I think casual fans (not die-hard fans) only familiar with Toto’s Greatest hits will have an easier time listening to this album, when they recognize the sense of personal loss Toto suffered and felt, at the time , in the making of this album, (for the reasons mentioned above). I think Toto’s pain is obvious, in the tracks, “I Will Remember,” “The Other End Of Time,” “The Turning Point,” and “The Road Goes On.” I think Toto like many musicians do, for themselves and their fans, have used this album as a form of therapy, if you will... I think in the song’s “Gift Of Faith,” & “The Road Goes On,” they’re telling their fans, “Inspite of the losses we’ve suffered, we will go on!” Not all of the song’s are “heavy,” there’s some light-hearted tunes, (I think) here, too... “Baby He’s Your Man,” (Steve Lukather’s duet with Jenny Douglas -McRae, interesting Rap song) Jenny does backing vocals on a lot of the songs, and has one all by herself “Blackeye.” I think Jenny has a great soulful voice! “Just Can’t Get To You,” (nice backing vocals, with acoustic guitar) “Dave’s Gone Skiing” (Instrumental). I think Simon Phillips does a great job as the drummer on this album!!! Toto gets 5 stars in my book for the courage to make such an open & honest Album!!!
