Not that great

Bruce has just lost something. There hasn't been a really good Cockburn album since 2003. Life Short Call Now wasn't as good as You've Never Seen Everything, and this isn't as good as Life Short Call Now. This one is quite pleasant to listen to, but none of the songs are really great. As compared to Life Short Call Now which had some complete crap on it, but at least one really great song. Honestly, the best songs on this are the instrumental collaborations with up-and-coming jazz violinist Jenny Scheinman. The tour is great, by the way; saw them last May. If you're an obsessive Cockburn fan, just get this for completion's sake and to enjoy the tour more. Maybe when Bruce gets some time to do the rocking out experiment he wanted to do he'll make another great album. He really needs to put some more energy into his music, because all these songs are deathly slow, and don't have much tune to them. Except for the aforementioned instrumentals.
Edit: I still agree with all the stuff I said, but ... I like to play this album on drives, and Boundless is on my top 25 most played list. Maybe there is a place for Cockburn-lite, if only to remind myself why I care about the real thing so much.
not fade away.

In this day and age, so many artists whose work we praised early in their careers are putting out garbage. Not Bruce Cockburn. He still makes beautiful music with relevant lyrics that show us the concerns of his heart. I thank God for him and his great music.
Grows on you

This is another strong effort from Bruce Cockburn. A more relaxed effort with less overt political messages in the lyrics than usual. Overall I find that it has hopeful messages. The instrumentals are also very strong with particular kudos to Jenny Scheinman's violin contributions. This music won't blow you away but if you give it a few listens it should definitely grow on you and provide 'a small source of comfort.'

I was taken by surprise by this collection> usually I am way in advance, waiting for the new stuff from this master, can't say I am surprised at its beauty and thought provokeing material. I have come to expect nothing less from him for the past 30 years, yet I am still caught breathless at every new offering from this man!!! Absolutely flawless collection!!!!!

Bruce Cockburn is alway worth it. Lyrically thought provoking and often prophetic. Musically, simply virtuosic. I'm always happy to discover the release of new Bruce Cockburn music. As usual, "Small Source of Comfort" more than fulfills these expectations. It is a huge source of comfort knowing he is still making music.
