One of the greatest albums ever made and one of the most important (to me, at least). People may point to other 'Mats albums for any number of reasons but for me it was this one.

Really an incredible album. Every song just rocks, with great melodies and thoughtful lyrics-this one is a no-brainer.

If you already have the original, then you know how great this band was - but the new sound, plus the addition of the extra tracks, including the amazingly poignant Birthday Gal, and the stunning Photo, will make this remastered version a worthwhile addition to your library.

Please to Meet Me has got some insanely great music. I.O.U., Alex Chilton, Nightclub Jitters, Nevermind, Valentine, Skyway, and Can't Hardly Wait. These songs are so good it's silly.

Can't argue with any of the other reviewers. Give this one a listen. I always thought the cover was referring to the thought that they were selling out. It couldn't be farther from the truth. The Ledge is one of Westerberg's finest. The pouding beat is irresistable. My mind may be failing me but I swear I saw them play it on the Today Show live when the Today Show stopped in Minneapolis. The story I heard is that the Today Show producers said that couldn't play that song due to the subject matter and they went ahead and did it anyway.

It is sad that the greatest band to come out of the 1990s scene, and one of the greatest songwriters ever in Paul Westerberg, has only three reviews. Now four. The songs are fantastic. If you like melody based music with an edge, go no further. You will not be disappointed.
  • Before there was grunge...

Those who followed The Replacements during their career were lucky to have witnessed a truly great rock and roll band. Their music epitomized the rebellious nature of the genre and their songs were full of the teenage angst that Nirvana made so popular just as The 'Mats were coming to an end. You were absolutely guaranteed a fun time at one of their shows. "Pleased To Meet Me" is a perfect title for a 'Mats album, as they always thumbed their noses as the establishment and then came right around and proved that they weren't just an ordinary band of slackers. This album has some of the best alternative rock from that era and it still is better than most of the stuff turning out these days. "IOU", "I Don't Know", and "Shooting Dirty Pool" are good representations of not only where The 'Mats came from, but where they were headed. The acoustic "Skyway" and "Can't Hardly Wait" became instant classics and "The Ledge" is an amazing gem sitting right in the middle. The Replacements came from the Minneapolis scene that gave the world the legendary Husker Du and the equally rocking Soul Asylum. It could be said that the music coming out of this scene was a direct influence on the grunge scene of Seattle that came after it.

The 'Mats are the best band ever. It was with this album that I fell in love with them. That and listening to Paul and Tommy on WXRT in Chicago. I miss them.
