    This is from the era when "alternative" music was truly an alternative to what you could hear on the radio. Any Replacements record is worth your time -- a bad Replacements album is still better than 90% of most albums out there -- but this is one of those defining albums that you can play for someone who wants to know what they were all about. On the first 5 songs along, you go from jangly pop to thrash to a piano ballad. And it all fits in perfectly. To a 17 year old kid who discovered this in 1988, songs like Unsatisfied and Answering Machine seemed like poetry. They still do today. Buy it. Buy it now.
