first off, the only reason i dont give it a full 5 stars is because, though great, its not as good as classics such as Fly In A Blue Dream or Surfing With The Alien. anyway, satch, is THE guitar god of the 80s and 90s, with the only people close being Steve Vai and Kirk Hammet, who he taught. live,, he is amazing. i am actualy only a recent fan, after seeing him live 2 months ago i fell in love with his music and sucked up all the albums i could find. I LOVE THIS GUITARIST

I own every studio album Joe has ever done, and this is IMHO the best of the bunch. He covers a broad range of musical styles and his musical palette brings out many emotions. If you want an album that showcases all of Joe's talents, this is the one to buy.

I have to respectfully disagree with rock4god567, Satriani is Platinum and the best. Just check out the DVD G3 live in concert, he totally owns the stage and if you see him LIVE then you will truly be amazed. This is the best album of the lot.
  • Mind Storm

Mind Storm was the second Joe Satriani song that I ever got, and it used to be my favorite. But now, Back to Salla Ba, Up in the Sky, and Crystal Planet, have taken over my top three spots, but I still recoment Mind Storm, as well as Belly Dancer. A few of the songs have a deep/cold/spacious minor feel to their sound: Mind Storm, Mountain Song, Sleep Walk, The Journey, The Traveler. (Go to the album Crystal Planet to look for more of these types of songs) But some have a "far out" middle eastern style, look for: Belly Dancer, New Last Jam, Seven String, [Hill Goove], Oriental Melody, What Breaks a Heart. And I'm not sure what to classify Starry Night, or You Saved My Life as, [Chords of Life] just relaxing I guess. All of these songs bring out the "adventurous" side if Satch. He is a guitar expert, no doubt about that.
  • One of his best.

This album probably features Satchmo's strongest songwriting. His melodies are metiulously-written but played in such a way as to sound improvised, emotional, and beautifully sweet. Unlike many of Satch's earlier albums, this one has very strong backing tracks with interesting rhythm guitar riffs and solid drumming. I want to list the best songs on here, but that's pretty much impossible. Just get the whole album. But if I had to pick a few songs I'd say Belly Dancer, Chords of Life, Seven String, and the 1950s cover song Sleep Walk.

when I heard that joe was going to try to be more modern and blend in with "what is popular" with this album, I was concerned. but this is just another great album from joe, even if he did try to be more mainstream. I do enjoy how joe incorporates different styles of music from all over the world into his songs, like oriental melody and belly dancer.

A great album......tied for Satch's best along with "Is There Love in Space?" While he's nowhere near as good as guitarists like John Petrucci or Steve Vai, he takes the bronze. This CD shows it with some crazy jams. 1. Oriental Melody- Good starter, very Indian-ish. 4/5 2. Belly Dancer- Great mix of rock and Indian-ish style music. One of the highlights. 5/5 3. Starry Night- AMG called this "An attempt to rewrite his masterful ballad, 'Always With Me, Always With You.'" This rewrites it ten times over. 5/5 4. Chords of Life- Besides the album "Engines of Creation," this is probably as unique as Satch gets. A very different type of song. The acoustic part sounds like "All Along the Watchtower." 5/5 5. Mind Storm- Satch's second best attempt at metal ("Hands in the Air" is first) and it's actually decent. 4/5 6. Sleep Walk- This song will put you to sleep. Very peaceful. 4/5 7. New Last Jam- Catchy. 4/5 8. Mountain Song- Nice riff. 3 1-2/5 9. What Breaks a Heart- Best song on the album. It's a fantastic ballad, and in my opinion it is his best ballad easy. 5/5 10. Seven String- Another attempt at metal, doesn't quite get there. I wonder if he actually uses a seven string guitar on here................4/5 11. Hill Groove- Nice blues rock. 4/5 12. The Journey- Peaceful, but not as much as track 6. 3/5 The last two tracks aren't good, just boring, bland ballads. But other than that, this CD is worth a buy.

Joe Satriani continues to amaze me with his upbeat songs and orginal style. Strange Beautiful Music is one of my favorite albums, from "Belly Dancer" to "Mind Storm" to "What Breaks a Heart", they are all equally original and only prove that Joe Satriani is a legend of the electric guitar. Overall, I would highly recommend this album. Recommended Songs: Belly Dancer Chords of Life Mind Storm What Breaks a Heart You Saved My Life
