"It's hard to find a more fruitful meditation on American music than in the compositions of guitarist Bill Frisell. Mixing rock and country with jazz and blues, he's found what connects them: improvisation and a sense of play. Unlike other pastichists, who tend to duck passion, Mr. Frisell plays up the pleasure in the music and also takes on another often-avoided subject, tenderness." –The New York Times “Bill Frisell’s unique guitar work and musical excursions in his installment of Solos: The Jazz Sessions are nothing short of awe-inspiring and unconventional. As with much of Frisell’s output, he has demonstrated again and again how he has become a master of his own guitar idiom.” –Evan Desaulnier, Guitar International “The first time you hear Bill Frisell will change the way you hear guitar forevermore. His approach is so textured, nuanced and wholly individual that it stands the instrument on its head and makes one rethink all of their preconceptions. While generally tucked into the jazz section, Frisell actually draws on the gusto of Western swing, African modal exploration, Sonic Youth worthy avant-garde-ism and a healthy chunk of Hendrix's wild, intense ability to suss out strange connections others simply miss… It's just one more remarkable piece of work that adds to the diversity and intrinsic curiosity that resides firmly in all of Frisell's music, a player for whom the whole expanse of sound is open and eagerly explored.” –Dennis Cook, JamBase

Frisell's ability to loop and improvise in real time is not a unique talent. What makes him truly incredible is that his loops and improvisations are so musical, original and mesmerizing. This collection is some of the best music I've heard from anybody, anywhere in a long time. The fact that it was recorded off the floor, no over-dubs is remarkable. Thank you Bill Frisell.

Bill Frisell has a sound that all at once sooths, haunts, and inspires a deep sense of nostalgia. It's so wonderful to FINALLY hear Mr. Frisell in a true solo setting, creating his patent loops and gorgeous melodies that literally sweep you into a different mental plane. Words cannot highly recommend this collection, and to any true musician looking to hear a genius at his most initimate... look no further. God bless you Mr. Frisell.
