  • Just another Ron Miles album

Ron Miles is that rare musician in a sea of sameness…. in that he is not. He has his own voice, as does Frisell and Blades. Put them together and you have something truly unique. No, they don't swing like Basie, but if that's all you're looking for in a so-called "Jazz" album then you're better off sticking with Basie (not that that's a bad thing). But if you like intriguing, unique, tight playing from master musicians that are able to rise above their individual talents and form a collective statement, then buy this! The album isn't an unapproachable navel gazing bore either, it's catchy, unexpected, and even entertaining. In other words, just another Ron Miles album.

I first heard of Ron Miles through Bill Frisell's recordings. This trio with Bill and Brian Blade is wonderful. Get it. I've been having Paul Motian withdrawals for over a year now. There will never be another. Mr. Blade helps. Several thousand stars for these guys.

Quiver is a recording that will go down in history as a great moment in jazz. These three musicians together are sublime. Brian Blade's drumming is perfect.
