Reviews

  • Boring but kind of good

I go back and forth with this album. I hated it, then liked it, then thought it was so bad I donated it, then I stole it back from the place i donated it to. It’s complicated.

Great album. Had not listened to it for years and ran across the empty jewel case. Downloaded it and was not sorry. These songs just make you feel good.

"Kid" was a wonderful pop song in its original form. "Kid" on this album is simply a beautiful and stunning song. Would that there might be more such "poorly conceived" songs!
  • One of VH1's finest moments

The "Unplugged" series on VH1 produced some fine moments in the history of music, including the first one, Paul McCartney's "Unplugged, the Official Bootleg" and the other first one, "Five Man Accoustical Jam" from Tesla (not to mention work-of-art performances by Neil Young, Eric Clapton, 10,000 Maniacs, Jay Z and more). I think this concert by the Pretenders tops all of them. I caught it late one night as I was half-buzzed and full-on bored flipping through channels. I just happened to land on VH1 just as Chrissie was introducing "Brass in Pocket". I was completely enthralled for the rest of the show. This accoustic version of "2000 Miles" is one of the most beautiful Christmas songs ever - even ranking above any version of "River" as far as I'm concerned (but just a half-notch below Jim Croce's "It Doesn't Have to Be That Way"). My other top song on this album is "Revolution". This album truly tests the strenth of the lions heart - I dare any of you to listen to it in full and not be moved. This collection of songs is a treasure - god I wish I could have been there.

Wow I couldn't dissagree with the review more in regards to this version of "Kid". I absolutely love the original but I truly think this version surpasses it in it's poigancy. Really if this song doesn't touch your heart, I'm a little worried for you.

I am certain about one thing. Some live albums are better than anything from the dead air of the studio. Most live albums are sound mix victims but still give you an idea. This album is probably something you need if you care about the intent of the music, because it isn't acoustically ready, but it is very sincere.

I love this album. the video is even better; it has at least one extra song (can't remember) that totally rocks--it's a cover of some fairly well known group, but I can't remember who it is. no matter; this album is awesome. amy says it's awesome too.
