Hey kids, here's a history lesson: Once upon a time MTV used to play music videos. Actually, that was the purpose of the channel when it came out in 1981. Most music videos between 1981 and 1983 were shot in a soundstage, in videotape with cheesy special effects. A classic example from that era is the very successful "Hey Mickey" video by Toni Basil. Then Michael Jackson decided to do music videos and raised the bar across the board. Let's fast forward to 1996. Every 90s rock video had either the gritty look of Anton Corbijn, David Fincher and Matt Mahurin, or the conceptual look of Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze. Stone Temple Pilots decided to shoot a video that paid tribute to the videos of MTV's infancy. The video looked different from all the other 90s rock videos you normally watched on MTV. Win.

i'm sorry, i can't let someone else say the "look" of this vid shows contrast of the late 90's this video was done long after a lot a big budg'ers from them as a "spoof" or maybe even a throw back to simple video green screening and such. they did it on purpose. it's awesome. and it's only now that people would get such a joke, back then people said it was dumb too, or at least the people was i around didn't like it. way ahead of the times by going backwards in time. good scott and crew! one of the best because it's one of the worst ;D
