I'd rather eat a pool Dookie than listen to this guy's voice.

I thought the band was good when Strange House came out, but i wasn't in to the whole kitschy, punk-garage thing, Then Primary Colours changed all that. I saw a band that grew and matured in to this really interesting art rock band (for lack of a better term) and this continued through Skying. This album is a little more restrained, upon the first listen i wasn't sure about Luminous, but i kept listening and then certain songs started assert themselves in particular "Jealous Sun". Then other songs started to make an impact and now i love this album just as much the previous mentioned albums. It's a grower, give it a few listens and let it sink in. The Horrors are such a great band one of my favorites of all time. They just give me a feeling that no other band has been able to do and I love them for that.

This is my favorite band right now. A little spacey, little pop, little goth. Hallelujah!
  • Very cool...

I love the consistent overall electronic vibe of this album although it doesn't sound entirely like electronic music per se. I especially love "So Now You Know," "I See You" and "Change Your Mind." The rest of the album is so fun - music I can either chill to or play at one of my parties! The Horrors are still at the top of their game; and yes, despite what some other negative critiques or opinions are of this album, I am a fan so it's all good by me. No one sounds like them. This album provides some variety from their previous excellent album Skying. Totally belongs in every goth-pop fan's collection, and see The Horrors live when they come to a stage near you!

If you are a die hard Horrors fan you are going to be disappointed with the album Luminous. Somewhere between Steely Dan, and a Bollywood soundtrack, Luminous departs from The Horrors previous post punk and Gothic Rock roots. However if you are just looking for new music, and have no knowledge of the horrors go ahead and get it. My ten dollars would have been better spent on a burger.
  • Skying … Over a Dark Sky.

The Horrors established themselves as a force to be reckoned with on their last studio album, Skying. Luminous follows up brilliantly on their hazy, neo-psychoedlica, brit alt-rock with even bolder sounds and a newfound confidence. Take "So Now You Know," for instance. The song dynamics echo Skying's second track "You Said" (one of my all-time Horrors favorites) - The song builds slowly at first, allowing little flickers of shimmering light to peer through as the synths rise and begin to form. The drums and bass then kick in, instantly forging a spellbinding groove that holds you in dreamy bliss until the vocals come in. And by the time you get to that last chorus, the energy is just perfectly contagious and inviting, and luminous is no longer just the album title - it's a real thing that you understand and feel as you listen. The rest of the album continues this great trend of carefully-built grooves in dark soundscapes. There's even a great ballad-type piece in 6/8 time called "Change Your Mind" that's quite unlike any other Horrors song I've ever heard. Very experimental, and very enjoyable. If you dare to seek music that is challenging, and ultimately rewarding, the Horrors do not disappoint. And if you liked Skying, you will like this a great deal. Definitely one of the year's best offerings so far.

The Horrors are one of the most underrated bands even after winning NME best album of the year for their last album, Skying. I would have given them 5 stars but I have yet to hear the entire new album.
