Teacher Mother Sister Daughter manages to communicate the anguish, pain, and loss of safety that always accompanies domestic violence without sacrificing the personal story of the musicians. This song exudes a yearning to learn why someone would take life away, why people allow themselves to be hurt by those close to them, and how we must all find a path of healing and understanding with those of us who are left after the violence has taken place.
