  • Not for everyone

Sufjan's record, Silver & Gold, has some of the most complex arrangements I've ever heard. While the sound is certainly not for everyone, there is a lot of depth and love that went into these songs. I don't care for every track, but that's an inevitability when there's more than 50 songs here. If you're looking for something different to listen to during the holiday season, Sufjan is your man! :)
  • For once, a thoughtful, meaningful Christmas album

Seriously beautiful. At first I bought singles, but the listening was massively enriched by listening to it as a whole. As Sufjan loves to do on his Christmas projects, there's fun, cultural reflection/critique, and theology all layered together. Cacophony and dissonance is underrated, people. Many haunting moments that capture the miraculous well, too. This albums is well worth your time all year long!
  • An overbearing Christmas present... just like Christmas itself

This is that huge present that you find them in the Christmas tree that you know it's too good to handle… I believe this thing clocks in at a little under three hours and I highly recommend this not just for Christmas but for every day. Sure, there are some songs that are a little bit mentally unnerving… But overall it's a very good album.. The perfect balance between sweet simple and creepy. Do yourself a favor and if you can find a physical copy of this box that you be much happier than buying the actual download. Sure it might cost you about $30 but what's not to like about the box set with everything that you get with it. but if you want a quick Christmas fix Sufjan Stevens themed bonanza this'll do the job nicely and will be a lot easier on the pocket books.

Cacophony - "a harsh, discordant mixture of sounds." ... That about sums it up
  • Carol of St. Benjamin the Bearded One haunts me

Since I first heard him on the "Weeds" soundtrack years ago, I have been an admirer. Sufjan is talented and willing to be vulnerable. The 5th track, "Carol of St. Benjamin the Bearded One," exemplifies this. The music is complex and layered, and the lyrics are vulnerable and haunting. The whole collection is a success. I recommend it! Listen three times before judging.

The classics are done wonderfully and Sufjan originals are just as good! This will be played on many Christmases to come!

Did not know who Sufjan was...but, the song "Christmas in the Room" is one of the most deeply beautiful songs I've heard in so long! So moving...the melody, lyrics, and voice are filled with so much emotion. I will listen to this song year-round. I may become a Sufjan fan. Wow, wow, wow!

When I discovered the album, I was excited and clicked on a few songs to find that interesting "Stevens" touch. I quickly downloaded the album; however, upon serious listening, I found some of the music was just "weird for weirdness sake".There are enough reasonably good songs to get the album, but you may find yourself un-clicking songs from your playlist.
  • From a 100% Sufjan Fan

I feel he does an incredible job with this album. A lot of people were pretty put-out when Sufjan released Age of Adz (which I actually fell in love with after about the 12th listen, but it took it's sweet time wooing me) but here Sufjan mixes brilliantly his obvious "Age of Adz"iness with his older, folkier acoustic sound. I feel the album is brilliant and definitely worth the money. 58 songs for 15 bucks……pretty sick deal. Merry Christmas and thank you Sufjan!

At first listen I was not a huge fan. It's really growing on me. Now I can't stop listening. I saw Sufjan Stevens live last week for their Christmas tour. It was amazing.
