  • dads really rock

When critics call an album dad rock, they usually mean that the band is getting lazy and softening up the music and just going through the motions. In the case of Fountains Of Wayne, acoustic doesn't always mean softer. And the electric guitars don't need all that fuzz to have power. This record really is amazing and one of the best of the 2010s

To me this band has all four phases of the game covered: intelligent, funny, insightful and crafty songwriting that takes on interesting subjects devoid of cliches, outstanding vocals and harmonies, masterful musicianship by all band members (stellar drums, memorable guitar riffs & lead lines, rock solid bass) topped off with unrivalled production. They just keep getting better with each album. Can't wait for the next one. It's worth waiting for, because when they put something out you know it will be top shelf.

this release sounds ok, but, some of the tunes sound like they're trying to sound like Stacy's Mom again, that tune brought them more exposure, but, they were much better than that in previous releases, so go back to the old way will ya'

Bought this album without listening to it beforehand, and then lost it in my collection. Recently rediscovered it. If you are a FOW fan, you'll love it. If all you know about them is "Stacy's Mom", then try it out. There is a lot more to these artists than that one clever song (and video!). There are 13 tunes on the album, and there is something that strikes me about each one. A lot of these lyrics go way beyond the typical FOW classification of "Power Pop". If you know ANYTHING about the northeast coast, you'll appreciate "acela" and "the summer place". If you've got a heart, you'll get "action hero", "workingman's hands", "hate to see you like this". I could go on. This might be one of the most mature and underappreciated albums of 2011. I know that I overlooked it until now.
