I am a musician, singer, and songwriter who has been furtunate enough to be able to quit a crappy day job and play music all around the country while having probably too much fun and even making some decent money doing it. I have been a huge Toad fan ever since they put out their first album Pale and then Bread and circus.By all means have they continued to be my biggest influence as a songwriter and singer for many yearsIt is not easy to write lyrics that are so honest, insightful, spiritual and sometimes very personal andthen combine them with beautitiful, dynamic and diverse music. I have sat and talked with Glen over beers on a few occassions and he is seemingly just a funny, very well read, and interesting person who really is just a normal guy who I now consider a friend. His moderate fame as a result of his work is something he considers to be nothing more than a bi-product of having been in the public eye for many years now. He considers himself to be a truly "anti-rock star" as his family and private life are a larger priority to him than is Toad. Finally, after more than a decade, they reformed and created a brilliant true sounding Toad album named New Constellation which if you haven't listened to more than once or were not even aware of the release itself, well trust me when I say that it is a truly unexpected gem that anyone who has been a Toad fan or even anyone who can appreciate and enjoy the maturity of the entirety of each song on this amazing release. Please, if you don't own it, I highly recommend paying to download the entire release. It grows on you quickly and intensely the more you listen to it. California Wasted should be up high on the billboard chart, but of coarse they no longer recognize brilliance when it is shoved down their throats. Songs like Rare Bird, and I'll Bet on You are also gems. I saw them live twice last summer both in Alexandria, VA which is a great sounding and very intimate venue. It was great to see them play a lot of their classics, but you could really embody their passion when playing their new material. Both shows, including the one I went to in CT were very special occasions for me and I can't wait to see what's next, whether it be another of Glen's solo albums or any one of his side projects such as Work Progress Administration, or even some more Lapdog material which is a band started (I believe), byTodd Nichols who is the lead guitarist in Toad and also includes other members of the band at times. I dont think I would have ever found the courage and inspiration to write as honestly as I can had it not been for Glen Phillips and the rest of Toad The Wet Sprocket. They truly helped me to develope my gift to a truly different level. I feel as though I owe them as had it not been for truly connecting to their music, I probably wouldn't have found the success to become a professional musician who somehow found the courage to sing and play very personal songs each night to complete strangers. It became amazingly cathardic and better than any therapy period. So thank you Toad for helping me find success doing something I love whith my three best friends. I hope any musician who might be struggling to find out how they can grow and find out what it is they do best and enjoy the most can find the same, not just from Toad, but from any genre of music that truly touches their heart. Best of luck. Obviously Fear was their masterpiece, but Dulcinea is a close second. I think a lot of people overlooked the album Coil as the production and the songs really showed the bands progression. Songs like Desire and Throw it all away are brilliant, so If you are not familiar with that album I highly recomend it.

Loads of amazng songs on this record. Unfortionatley, the 90's production taints some of the songs with too much reverb and compression.

I keep proving it to people over and over again. I don't know how many times I have bought this as gifts. Something to Say is my favorite, but All I Want and Walk on the Ocean got it started. Give Fear a chance and you'll know what I mean.
