Erasure

Loved this album from the first time I heard it. Not quite sure why it never caught on with the fans. There are some beautiful melodies, lyrics and amazing vocals from the always stunning Andy Bell. It must have been the fact that the songs were double the length than their normal "hits", but that doesn't make them any less eloquent!!!

This is erasure's masterpiece. It is beautifully crafted with wonderful music and vocals. I played this over and over back in the 90's. Today, this album is timeless.

I love that this album has no ending... just kept on going wonderfuling mixed. I remember I lived in Vancouver Bc Had a christmas party and this album was magical!

I have many many Erasure albums, and this one is my absolute favorite. It just reaches in and touches me, with both the rhythm and lyrics.

Erasure truly entered uncharted waters with this album and I will forever respect them as artists for taking such a risky plunge. While in the eyes of mainstream music lovers, this was argueably the beginning of Erasure's descent from being atop the pop world, it re-inforced what Vince Clarke recently stated in an interview from his Cabin Studio in Maine, which was he and Andy were "more interested in the songwriting than the style...the people really appreciate that." True Erasure fans indeed do appreciate that.

I am a fan of this group. At first listen I wasn't sure if I was going to like this album... it seemed to have a little different sound than I was used to, there were longer instrumental intros before the lyrics would kick in, and the album seemed to have a different mood than previous albums. By the time I finished my first run through the album I was hooked. The longer intros focus on the subtle style Erasure sometimes has of starting a song with either a small background melody or a simple sound or beat and build on top of that as the listening goes further... eventually exploding in listening nirvana when you hear how these geniuses put it all together. My two favorite examples of that on this album are tracks 4 and 9 (Fingers & Thumbs/Angel). It's a great album that I feel really shows off how the group still managed to sound fresh after their great start in the 80's. An essential album for an Erasure collection.

I am a big erasure fan, but not a die-hard love everything they do fan. Dont think top 40, think Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon/Wish you were Here style arrangements by Erasure! This album is a 10 out of 10, great songs with depth. :)

10 years and 7 albums into their career, Erasure released an album simply called "Erasure." This would seem to indicate that they believed it to strike at the heart of what they were about as a group, and surprisingly, it was a grand departure from what they had done up until then. Famous for 3-and-4 minute pop songs, Erasure stretched the songs on this record out as far as they could go, experimenting with sounds and expanding the verse/chorus structure of the pop song. It was their first major commercial flop in the UK--their five previous albums went to #1 in the UK, and this one marked the beginning of the end of their popularity. But it was an essential step for them as artists, and remains one of the most treasured albums among fans. It has all the melody and beautiful singing of their hit albums, but doesn't easily fit into short radio slots. "Fingers and Thumbs" ranks among Erasure's very best high-energy singles--but from the intro on the album goes from strength to strength. Andy Bell experiments more here with his vocals than on any other album, layering the harmonies and textures of his flexible voice. Vince seemingly used the entirety of his technical wizzardry here. A great album.
