Like one day I was walking down the streat when this Giant organge rectangle came over and started talking to me. And the sky was all like brown and tan and like the buildings where like out of some kinda erector set but as if it was made out of ikea. So we where chatting about the polar bears don't like us when the face of Phillis Diller started jeering at us from behind the sun and it was like GIRL like chill and all. This is how we roll in our bellbottoms. And like we went back to talk about the new felt I got in the mail the other day. when.....

Some make it sound like this is bold & new stuff. Indeed for Brad it is. But artists like Wolfgang Haffner & John Scofield have been messing with cool techno beats & samples for years. But, that's why I can really appreciate & enjoy this. Not to mention the great analog synth, that I didn't realize I missed until hearing them resurrected on this gem. For me- this got me back into Brad, as I was getting a bit too relaxed with his sound. This is a fresh breathe of air...

This is simply some of the best and most innovative (and courageous) Jazz I've heard in a long long time… Really love how the drums are given equal footing with keyboards--a duo in the true sense of the word. Please tell me that there are more collaborations like this in the works.
  • So-so because of Spoken Poetry

This album has a few extended spoken word sections that are really poor, and get in the way of the tracks they're on. I would not buy those tracks, unless they end up releasing versions without the transparent poetry. 5 stars – spoken word = 3 stars. I should add that the stand-out on the album is actually Mark Guiliana, whose drumming is an impressive confluence of jazz, break-beat, and electronic drumming.

Jazz is and should always be an ever-evolving art form in which composition meets improvisation and innovation. Sure, Miles will always be Mies. Duke Ellington will always be Ellington. Weather Report will always be Weather Report. But all of those artists pushed Jazz to the limits of definition. And so it goes. And with this adventurous new album from two absolutely brilliant musicians, we hear familiar Jazz, electronica, rock and funk sounds put together in a whole new, thoroughly modern way. And yes we hear all kinds of stylistic references to other artists, but if you try to compare this to some of those cats you miss the point. Take it for what it is and see if you like it. All I know is if these guys come to San Francisco, I’ll be there in the front row.
