"Vegas" baby!

The title of this review is sadly sarcastic. I mean, "Vegas" in the sense of very polished with very little of anything that resembles spontaneity.
The sound of the horn section is tight, but it is also electronically processed to make the whole section sound bigger. Bill Champlin over-sings everything to the point that he almost sounds like a bad lounge singer parody from Saturday night live. (Listen to Make Me Smile to get an idea of what I'm talking about.) Tris Imboden is a very polished, skilled drummer, but his playing lacks the wild energy that Danny Seraphine brought to the band. In short, this set makes the band sound more like a lounge act than a rock 'n roll outfit. I much prefer Live in Japan if you really want to hear what this band could do in its prime.
