What's great about Metric is the flexibility of their songs; no song on this session sounds like it does on its corresponding album. I'm amazed by this band's fearlessness of adapting their own songs, and how flawlessly they do it. There truly is no band out there quite like Metric, or even in the same ballpark really. They're fantastic. And to the likes of getgain: ...There are a lot of opinions I'll calmly handle, but when a person completely contradicts everything a band is, it needs to be called out. If you can say that Metric's edges have been smoothed out, you cannot have listened to Fantasies, at least not closely enough to appreciate what it is. Metric had the songs on Fantasies written just as energetic as the previous two albums, but they changed them for the final product, and it wasn't because they ran out of the energy they had from OWU and Live it Out. Just one listen to Empty on this iTunes session will tell you that. Rather, Fantasies explores new territory where the band hasn't gone before. It's the same Metric style that has always been there in a mellow, down-to-earth package. To me, it shows that their edges are only getting sharper, and that they're going to keep experimenting with different styles, hopefully never settling down with just one. Personally I can't wait to see what Metric has to offer in the future, and if it's a cover album then I'm confident that it would be a damn good one.

I'm a fairly new yet avid fan of Metric. I've been thrilled to find a band that I enjoy so much that I previously had absolutely no knowledge of. This album however is not for me. It's strange because I love acoustic or "unplugged" music in general but just not in this particular case. This is a personal and totally subjective review and shouldn't in any way reflect poorly on the quality of the music in general. I just completely and totally prefer the original version of each and every song. But don't let me be the judge for you. Check it out and listen for yourself before making a decision.

I especially love the Gimme Sympathy version! I would have given 5 stars if it weren't for the song from Twilight Song. But still, every Metric fan should get this! Emily Haines' voice is so beautiful, interesting interview too.
  • Stop Wasting Time On This Sort Of Garbage

"Stop wasting your time with this sort of garbage. Write a new record. Challenge yourself. Don't get comfortable." That's what I'd like to say to Metric. I'm falling out of love with them, as their edges have all be smoothed out. This star is dwindling. I don't want to use the word 'hate', but I really do have disdain for the direction this band is going and the direction of these songs. Let's hope this exclusive session does not give a look into the future. Live It Out was perfect. Don't re-live it, or Fantasies or anything else. It is only evidence of an imminent break-up. The next thing we're gonna get is a covers record, right? Ugh.
