A real pivot at the time

This is a very good RTF album. However, it was a dramatic shift from what they were doing. Their previous three albums were successful jazz-rock-fusion albums. So much so, that the group was gaining popularity, crossing over with progressive rock audiences. Chick Corea, is a genius and an artist. Commercial success was obviously not his concern. He moved on.

I love this album. Bought it when it was released in the 70's and it's been a mainstay in my library ever since. The music is lyrical like a sweet fairy tale that takes you far away and dances across the heavens with your senses. To coin an old phrase "It's cosmic".
THe RTF album to buy last...

Chronologically, Musicmagic was perceived as a huge let down after Romantic Warrior, the album which preceded it. RTF had finally carved their way from an exclusive jazz cult following and into the mainstream and their answer to this was Musicmagic, which couldn't have been more off course.
