Love this one. Got it at the time, and still love it now on my iPod. Totally up there with any of the Stone Roses....just a great album.

I was really excited about bands like The Charalatans, The Farm, Primal Scream,Happy Mondays,Stone Roses, etc when they arrived onto the scence in the early 90's.This cd Some Friendly was a solid piece of music. With breathy moody vocals, slashing guitars, and amazing keyboards. The big hit "The Only One I Know" is one of my all time favorites. There might be some samples of Deep Purple's-Hush on that track. This music was short lived unfortunately.

The Charlatans debut album is a phenomenal piece of rock music. With a style sounding both old and very modern, they exploded out of the "Madchester" scene and continue making great music to this day. Understated drum programming floats over great rock drumming, with swirling feedback, gorgeous vocals, and pulsating Hammon organ. The opening, "You're Not Very Well" will hook you immediately. Other highlights are the hit, "Only One I Know", "Opportunity", "Then", "Polar Bear", and the psychedelic jam of "109 pt 2". Not a bad song on here. If you like good, melodic rock music, you will LOVE this record.

Spun this alot in the 90's, sounds like a blend of 60's & early 90's, great stuff

This is easily the best Charlatans record. Lots of other crap brit groups tried to ape the sound (see Menswear, etc.) - but could never be this cool. Super good intro to an awesome band.
