He's a brother...A soul brother. He feels it so he gives it up, he's got soul no matter what.
  • Okay so sonically this guy rocks

but the problem I think with him is the same problem I see with some other artists from other countries with the funk-soul experience.....(See Lewis Taylor, Nate James, Mica Paris) Phenominal music, Amazing vocals but the phrasing is not quite there. We as the genre goes in america, tend to like our vocalists to sing sharp and even flat in most cases. The more classically trained sounding voicee (less stylized, clean strong presence) tends to go unnoticed and that's just too damn bad for such talented young men and women in the game! buy it and show your support in the quest for REAL MUSIC and ENJOY!!!!!!
  • Just LISTEN to him and feel the soulful groove. Seductive and funky.

I think he deserves a good listen. He is surprisingly original and creative. Incredibly smooth but funky. Addictive. He has similar musical roots to many popular African American musicians of today (and a lot of them work with him) but he also has Jpop in his background. There are or 5 of his Music Videos on Itunes (Breaking Through and Masquerage are hot and Funk it up is really fun) - just have a look to see how appealing he is (or check YouTube - you have to see the LaLaLa Love song video). He goes by Toshi, Toshi Kubota or Toshinobu Kubota. Since he is Japanese his soulfulness is a little different, refined or more tuneful or something - but it is impossible to keep your booty from shaking during much of his music. On this recording, aside from Nothing But Your Love and Masquerade, check out Never Turn Back, Shame. Some of his stuff gets me right away but there are times when I have to listen a few times to connect - totally worth the effort. Go look up his Japanese recordings online: United Flow, As One and the 2006 release For Real stand out for me but the earlier Jpop and Jamaican influences are fun as well. Look him up online, he has a web site and there are sample music videos online.
