Music is great and love the lyrical content but it just sounds bad. I see there is another review that mentions the production. I find it sonically irritating.

Pearl Jam was busy making funky overly creative tunes. Then they made the Avodado record and it rocked. Hoping these guys find that. Like Gordon Downey of the Hip Jay has to vocal throughout the entire record. He needs to let the music out more.

Great album again. Darker themes obviously. The bookending tracks being my favorite. Can’t wait for the second part LIGHTBRINGER scheduled for later this year.

A deep album. As per their usual modus operandi, Rival Sons have delivered an impressive collection of songs that range from ethereal beauty (“Rapture”) to slightly menacing (“Darkside”). It’s an album that grows in stature with repeated listening. There’s no filler in the track listing. Every song is a composition of mature songwriting and lyrics that are much more than superficial and delivered by the incomparable voice of Jay Buchanan. If you’re interested in a guitar driven music, the Fuzzlord delivers tones that are not so much flashy as they are inventive and unique to the genre. The rhythm section of Mike Miley and Dave Beste lock in and hold everything together. If you like your rock and roll straight up with no chaser this album is for you.
Incredible Band/ Tragically Terrible Production

So, for starters, let me clear the air. I absolutely love this band! Their musicianship, song writing, vocal prowess, and live performances are above reproach. That said, how did this sonic mess ever get past a final mixing session? There is no excuse, whatsoever, for this inept, deplorable production to be allowed to destroy such a great record.
My suggestion would be to get Steven Wilson involved in any future releases.
5 Stars for the material, countered by -1 stars for the ability to listen to this effort.
