  • Hands Down, Best Styx Album of All Time!

It is an undeniable fact that the Grand Illusion is a phenomenal album and clearly the best of Styx. The electronic synthwave mixed with classic rock ‘n’ roll of the seventies is unstoppable, featuring their best pieces, including: Come Sail Away (I LOVE THAT SONG, BEST BY STYX!!!) & Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man) (I ALSO LOVE THAT SONG!!!). Even today, this album has not only stood the test of time, but it’s still such a thrill ride to listen to! If you haven’t listened to this album yet, then I’d highly recommend it, it won’t disappoint! But seriously, Come Sail Away (one of my favorite songs ever) is literally one of the best songs of all time and never gets old despite how popular it is because it’s just an archetype of late 70’s progressive rock which became the seeds for 80’s techno/synthetic music.

The Grand Illusion is truly the best Styx Album of all time. Dennis Deyoung, Tommy Shaw, and James Young at the top of their game. Essential for any Rock music lover. Album are just not made like this anymore.

I remember hearing The Grand Illusion and liking it when I was very young, but it somehow fell under my radar in the intervening years, even though I love prog rock. I gave it another listen recently and was completely blown away!!! Even one of the most burned out classic rock songs ever (Come Sail Away) sounds ok in the context of the whole album! If you are new to Styx or like me, checking out what you may have missed, this is their crowning achievement. It gets 5 stars even with one terrible song (Superstars) because the rest is stellar.
  • A timeless masterpiece

I am a huge fan of 70s progressive rock. This album is one of my top five favorite Prog rock albums. The brits are usually credited with being the masters of Prog rock, but Styx’s The Grand Illusion proves that we had it in us here in the states to be able to master the genre as well. There isn’t a single dull song on this album! It’s like a painting where every feature is very detailed and eye catching. The musicianship Styx presented on this album is unbeatable!
