I discovered Jen Gloeckner on myspace of all places and fell in love with her single, "Only 1". I love the eerie vocal arrangements and jazz/folk fusion of her instrumentation. It doesn't stop there though. She has some wierd break-beaty moments as well that spice up the album. Overall, if you like Lamb, Bjork, Erika Badu and any sort of sweetly odd musician-ship then you'll probably really appreciate what jen Gloeckner brings to the table.

Jen has one of those voices that depending on the song, depends on where she takes you. Thanks Jen. She added me on myspace today. I was stunned at her inner beauty and calming effect in some songs. Disapointed i tunes only has one cd on her. Check her out. AWESOME

Jen Gloeckner's debut album features tracks that are diverse and complex that it is challenging to generalize her style. She has a deep well of creativity and brings in various elements of jazz, pop and new age folk to her music. Her voice can demonstratively oscillate from warm and tender to serious and spiritual from one track to the next. Though the tracks are mostly emotionally deep and thought provoking there are a few that are lighter in nature such as "Wasting Time". I got Jen's CD directly from her website as I discovered her material on MYSPACE. I commented on her page that her music reminds me so much of the jazz group OREGON (featured Ralph Towner, Paul McCandless, Glen Moore and Collin Walcott) in its range, depth and complexity.
"Miles Away" is a timeless jewel. If you are looking for music that can carry you to different places and almost effortlessly invoke the unique emotions that make us human then you have just found it.
Amazing.

At first, the music takes a minute to get used to, but at further listening, the songs have a soothing effect. Every song has a different style, and each takes you to a different place. Some have a nostalgic quality to them, while others tend to have an almost ironic quality to them. A great listen, in any case.
