As great as Black Water Boogie and Ron Etheridge

Beautiful album, full of inspiration, my favorite album besides Black Water Boogie's Fresh Magnolia, and Ron Etheridge's Big Bad Wolf! Even up to the standards of Dr. Dog or even Edwarde Sharp!
Excellent as always

Maybe a bit below So Runs the World Away (my all time favorite), but right there with Animal Years and Historical Conquests. Great stuff!
Buck Owens / Paul Simon!

I love so many of these new tunes! There's Buck Owens (if you're into that sort of thing) and even Paul Simon, as well Ritter's usual fun brand of rock.

This album is a solid purchase. It definitely has a classic Ritter feel but isn’t quite as good as Sermon on the Rocks. Great songs include “When Will I Be Changed,” “Train Go By,” “Thunderbolt’s Goodnight,” and “Cry Softly.” The sing along track is “Showboat." I love how he doesn’t necessarily stick to convention and is poetic and evolving. This album has a definite motif that makes me want to listen again. He dabbles in different types of expression and is worth exploring further than just this album and his music.

There really isn't a bad or even mediocre Josh Ritter album, so it's no surprise Gathering continues one of the most consistent streaks of great albums by any one singer songwriter. Even amongst Ritter's impressive catalogue this is one of the very best. You won't regret buying it.

9th album and still feels like we aren't anywhere near the end. Josh's creativity and songwriting shows no bounds.
