Hindsight and Little Gift are underrated
  • Their best studio album

I haven't been a big fan of UM's studio releases since Anchor Drops, but Similar Skin is something special. They're back and at their best, and this album just solidifies what we already knew - Umphrey's is the best in the business. Absolute perfection from start to finish.
  • Overproduced and no fun

What happened to fun, upbeat and clever? This album generally a downer, over produced, with a heavy handed guitar and squeaky Van Halen style riffs. It's definitely tighter but also more poppy. Did the band get a new producer?

My son, a longtime fan took me to see them at Grinder's in KC just a few days ago. To call them a "Jam Band" (a genre of music of which I am definitely not a fan), is like saying Zep played rock and roll. A massive understatment. Imagine a crazy lab where some mad scientist is able to combine the DNAs of Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Rush, Talking Heads, Bob Marley and Queen and you might just come close to what these cats put put out in a show. I am still not a fan of Jam Bands, but I am a fan of Umphrey's

If you like any type of rock, you should check this out. Don't let "categorization" stop you from finding a superbly executed rock record. If you get the chance, definitely check them out live too...that's really where it's at folks. A great band and great organization. You will enjoy.

Had the privilege of seeing Umphrey’s at Mountain Jam 10 and they played Similar Skin and Puppet String and I can’t stop listening to both songs. Great new album, well done. I love how the album begins because it is how they would start a show. There sound is unique and I love most of this album, especially songs like Loose Ends, The Linear. I enjoyed the live version of Puppet Strings way more than the album version. Educated guess is another really great song that I hope to hear on Halloween in Boston. Hindsight is taking a bit more to get used to because it sounds like nothing Umphrey’s has ever done. I like the incorporation of some of the metal riff, especially LIVE, but not sure how I feel about this song yet. The bonus tracks are where it’s at though. Morning Song and Room to Breathe are just some good ole Umph Love.
