Reviews

  • How dare you, iTunes.

I've owned this album since it came out, and I have been a C&C fan since the beginning. However, the Album Review that iTunes wrote is insulting! If you're going to write a review for an album, listen to it more than once, please. It says they could cut down the length of the songs due to tedious poetry, and that they will fall short. Are you serious? The reason the songs are long is because there is a whole story behind C&C's music, it's such a bigger concept than a long song. Out of all the C&C's albums, this is by far my favorite, this is such an amazing album, it never gets old, I never feel that I have to skip to the next track. As 2010 is quickly passing, and C&C is now finishing off their saga with 'Year Of The Black Rainbow' I feel sad that this journey won't continue.... Maybe Shabutie will start again to keep this amazing band in our lives. Get this album, you will NOT regret it.

Love all their stuff and sat down to put together a personal "Greatest Hits" playlist. I listened to all their albums again at least a couple of times each, pulling out favorites as I went. Before this little exercise, if you had asked me my favorite C&C album, I would have said IV. But now that I've gone through all of their work again, I must say that III is better overall. Three Evils is not just my favorite Coheed song, it just might be my favorite song period.

Second Stage and In Keeping Secrets will always be my favorite Coheed Albums. In Keeping Secrets was just perfect. Something changed after that album, though. I didn't know what it was at first, but after awhile I began to realize what it was. It was the lyrics. Everything after IKSSE3, the lyrics were just different. They were too on the nose. It felt like someone else, all of a sudden, just started writing the songs. I kind of died a little inside when Good Apollo released. I couldn't stand the twist in the story. It felt like Claudio created the the "Writer" character just so he could have a personal outlet in the lyrics. It was all about some girl he hated or something cliche. What happened to the science fiction? What happened to "something lurks, creeps on the countertop, somewhere behind you" or "man your own jackhammers, man your battle stations"? What happened to "dear Ambellina, the Prise wishes you to watch over me" and "Maria my star, Mathew, goodnight"? What happened to all the name dropping and character development? "This comlink lost its frequency, and I feel we're coming home short. Here take me instead, I'd rather not see her off alone". Come on. How awesome and immersive were those lyrics against that chorus?? Okay "Here we are Juggernaut" was a great song and got me excited for In Year of the Black Rainbow--which Juggernaut was very reminiscent of Cuts Marked in the March of Men (that's why I liked it so much). Okay, and "Goodnight, tonight, goodbye, I'm burning star IV" (off the longer cut of the song) still carried some of that Classic Broheed vibe in Good Apollo. I still have all the albums and listen to them, but I will never love them like I do the first 2. I feel like we will never get the album that should rightfully come after In Keeping Secrets :(

C&C is an incredibly talented band and this is one of their finest albums. I am seeing Coheed tonight in Monclair, NJ where they are playing this album cover to cover! I love that they do things like this, because every song on the album is worthy of a live performance. I am most looking forward to hearing: In Keeping Secrets The Crowing Backend of Forever Light and the Glass

The best album in the history of music. That is, to me, what IKSSE3 is.

Love this album! It has the classic "back in the day" feeling. The Crowing is by FAR the best song on here!

Don't get me wrong, I love this band. I wouldn't go so far as to call the iTunes reviewer a moron though. Some good points were made. I honestly feel that the song the album shares a namesake with is by far the most epic song on the album, only closely rivaled by 2113. I give the album 4 stars, although a couple of the songs are worthy of five. I will say that the iTunes reviewer was way off to say that this album fell short of epic. In my opinion if you're just getting in to co&ca, stick with there earlier albums. This one and it's predecessor, "Second Stage Turbine Blade." Their newer albums just aren't the same, (as good.) They are just way too over-produced any more. Although never pass up a chance to see them in concert!
