Reviews

  • One of the best pop albums of the '80s! (and beyond!!)

The review above is spot-on, but just in case you want "the word" of a non-critic, here ya go! After experimenting with different styles and directions for about a decade, H&O decided to just strip things down and play some good ol' pop songs with "Voices". That album really had a "live" feel to it. Private Eyes is a bit more polished but by no means does it sound robotic, detached or too bathed in synths like most other early - mid 80's albums (wish I could say the same about the next album, H20, which is guilty of all of the above for most of that album). Okay, I'm gettin' to it! TOP SONGS: "Did It In A Minute", "Friday Let Me Down" and "Head Above Water" - glorious power pop! "Your Imagination", "Unguarded Minute" and, of course, "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) are great soul songs that I'm surprised more R&B artists haven't covered (although, how many artists/rappers have used "I Can't Go For That"'s riffs/hook already in their hits???). The rest of the album is solid. There are no clunkers, but I promise that upon repeated listens, you will have a new favorite song buzzing around in your head every few days!
