This album was for too long underrated for it's ability to be able to stand on its own legs. Teamed up with Ray Ellis for a a completely arranged album by him, the two are a match made in heaven. Mr. Ellis' arrangements have long spoke on their own with the legends he worked with. But, teamed here with Streisand you see what to me was a perfect match of voice and instrument. The only thing missing was the "put to the vault" classic, "Willow Weep for Me" which was only released a few years ago. This album is a symphony of talent that we won't be seeing much in the future. Enjoy this great work.

One of her best--and that's saying a lot. Has my favorite song (by anybody) of all time in "Funny Valentine". Cannot stand to hear anyone else sing it. She owns the music; she IS the music.

For her ninth lp, Barbra decided to coast a bit and release an album dedicated to all standards although the lp cover suggests something a bit more pop. All of the songs are beautiful and like the rest of her early output released on cd in the late eighties as this cd was, the remastering is great. A previous review stated "All The Things You Are" is one of the best ever recorded and I agree. Nat "King" Cole and Ella Fitzgerald recorded a version each, but Barbra's has an element of "flirt" while the others stuck strictly to the original arrangement. It's really difficult to pick a "standout" track but if push becomes shove I'd say "More Than You Know." I just really like that song. As good as this lp is, not one track would be picked for her "Greatest Hits" lp and this body of work would be sadly overlooked. Please rediscover it.
