  • A Work of Life

Every sonata is preformed beautifully, Brendel's technical mastery allows the art to shine in all its intended glory; No. 28, 31, and above all 32, are far greater than any interpretation I have ever heard. i highly recommend this album, even if you're not a fan of classical music, because this music doesn't have a "genre" you can brand on it; instead, these sonatas grow on you as your musical maturity grows, so that after a while the music becomes a part of your being. Of course, you could always put this on as "mood" music but i have a feeling beethoven might send a lightning bolt your way ;) In short, this music demands your undivided attention, rewarding you infinitely for your patience.

Brendel's performance of Sonata No. 31 is stunning--his expressive playing brings out the depth of Beethoven's genius. I think his is the best performance of this piece I've heard.
