As someone who frequented the Cellar Door in Georgetown, I can tell you that this album brings shivers to me. If only I'd known about it earlier. The intimacy of this venue is, well amazing, and you can feel it here. Neil Young is on top of his form. Massey Hall doesn't come off as intimate as this one.

This is a bleak, guarded performance by Neil on this release. You catch him in a really cool mood. It feels like you're sitting in his living room by a fireplace, smoking drugs. You can really tell these songs are new to him and he plays them with solitude and a little reserve, but that's what makes it so great. Beautiful album.

I heard samples of this collection today on the Howard Stern Show. Gary Dellabate gave this to his boss, Howard as an early birthday present. A perfect present. Classic Neil. At $1.00 each, if you purchase the entire 13 songs, it's well worth it. The music, lyrics, and of course, Neil's ethereal vocals transport you to another place. I am blown away by the clarity of these recordings. Great gift, Baba Booey!
  • Go for Massey Hall 1971 instead

This sounds like a rehearsal for Massey Hall which was recorded a few months later. The sound is good but not as good as the other show, and I would say the same about the playing. As a guitarist I find the MH show to be far, far superior. Also, the guitar sounds slightly out of tune to me on several of these cuts. OK for the completist but you get most of these songs on Massey Hall 1971 and a better overall experience in my opinion. I'm actually somewhat surprised Neil released this.

I agree with Zappaarf. Neil young is just mesmerizing. Keplar mountain all the way. Also I know you've bocked before, trust me.

What can be said about Neil Young other than he has been, and still is an incredibly talented and outstanding artist. Whether an acoustic guitar, piano, or rocking out completely, it always seems perfect. Many of these songs I've heard before, but they always touch the heart and soul, and the memories they bring back are some of the best. Thanks Neil, and I look forward to whatever else is in the vault! Hey Lala, if your reading this thanks for the memories too.....

So good! The live, raw sound is the way Neil was meant to be heard. Sends chills all over no matter how many times I hear it.
