The Immortal King
There has never been a "King" like Nat.
I was in the AF in the mid 50s and stationed near St. Louis. Some of my buddies and I decided to go to the "City" for a weekend and stayed at one of the finest hotels. We had just checked in and were decked out in our uniforms (to get our military discount) and taking the hotel elevator to our rooms when the elevator stopped and 5 or 6 guys entered. One of them came over to us and said "That man over there is Nat Cole." Mr. Cole heard him and came over, shook my hand, patted my shoulder, and asked me if we were treated OK - then said he was appearing on stage that night and his agent would give each of us a free pass to come to the concert and spend some time with him backstage before and after his concert. Wow, and what pipes he had...and what a super gentleman he was!! Unforgettable!!
The man is timeless
I remember as a kid, the 60s, hearing Ramblin Rose, Those Lazy Crazy Days of Summer, wow! Then in my teens I discovered Pretend, Mona Lisa and Too Young, timeless. I am 64 years of age and Nat King Cole has always been worthy of greatness and a timeless sound that will never grow old.
His time to shine !
At my age I still find this man incredible. His way of singing is unmatched. So I say he shined during his time. He made this world a different kind of place. He seemed to be a peaceful kind of man. So where ever you are Nat, Mr. Cole ,keep on shining for your that star.
