Kelliher doesn't sing on the record. Troy Sanders and Hinds do. Not a single mention of a very talented bassist. Good job iTunes.
  • A Great Journey

Mastodon takes their listeners on a magnificent voyage on Leviathan. I instantly took a liking to every song on here (with the exception of "Island.") The instrumentation and musicianship on here is top notch, as would be be trend for the boys going forward. Top notch stuff. The only reason I can't give it five stars is because I prefer their later stuff.

Brann Dailor reminds me of Billy Cobham (MahivishnuOrch-InnerMountgFlame-Meeting/Spirits). Uhhm, what an album! Got mine at Rasputin’s on Telegraph Ave-iTunes, some masterpieces must be beheld. Great for the GYM, for treadmills, for spin cycles, for road biking, for pumping iron beyond failure…Astounding!
  • Best album by Mastodon!

This album is masterpiece! I love the theme of water and the ancient creatures. Best songs off the album are Hearts Alive, Naked Burn, Seabeast, I am Ahab and Joseph Merrick. Every song on here is perfect.

This was my introduction to Mastodon. I heard that these guys were prog metal, and I was interested in getting into these guys because I really dig prog metal gods Dream Theater, so I assumed these guys would sound similar. Boy was I wrong. This album is extremely complex, but also very hard hitting. After listening to it once, I felt a little disappointed because I found it a little over-the-top, bland and hard to understand. But I was also very intrigued. I've never heard a band that sounded remotely close to these guys, so I listened to it again, and I flat out enjoyed it! I really had to really think about what I listened to because there's so much more to the music other than the hard hitting exterior of this band. Dalor's drumming with his unique style with the awesome riffage and complexities and the fuzzy bass along with it came an amazing sound that I've really come to enjoy! Another thing I've learned to love was the imagination these guys have! Which metal band(s) could say they played songs about Moby Dick? This album is just exceptional. It's consistent all the way through, not a single bad moment in it. If you're skeptical of this album, start off with Blood and Thunder. Then get the rest. Trust me, it really is an amazing album, you might need to let it grow on you first.

This album is untouched, 2nd to none. Naked Burn and Seabeast are the most wicked songs. \m/ (-_-) \m/

Deal with with this sound then start with a newer album because mastodon gets better and better and was always amazing. I bought this album because I lost the CD. I have a bad habit of having to own the album itself instead of the digital copy. Its not vinyl but still a mark on the work I want to physically held by me. What this review is really about is that SNARE of Brann's. I hang out with these guys sometimes in EAV. And I've always loved the bite and pop of that snare. Long Live Mastodon.

'Grindcore' edge? Mastodon isn't grindcore, iTunes. Get your facts straight.

so i started with crack the skye and had to get more. i'm old, i'm mellow, but i like something heavy at the gym... so i got leviathon even though i knew it was heavier than my tastes. THIS ALBUM IS INSANELY AMAZING. i am officially a metal head now because of mastodon, and this album, after a billion listens, is the best of my collection. awesome.
