Fantastic Album!

We have not heard any new material from Fikir Amlak for a very long time until last year when "Higher Regions" was released. It was full of previous recordings, demos and unmastered gems that never saw official releases. For myself, this was a sign that possibly Fikir Amlak was returning to the music scene after a 3 year hiatus. It was indeed a blessing when I heard that there would be brand new material and a brand new album at the end of 2012. "The Lion Lives" is the new album and it is fantastic. It has such a unique blend of music styles that include modern roots, acoustic, elements of dancehall, and traditional roots reggae. All of the tracks flow together very nicely, yet each has their own vibe. In my opinion, stand out tracks include: "Lioness" and "Skandalous", the latter stepping into the dancehall genre. " Someone Like You" is an acoustic gem, and "Free" is a wonderful tune and an excellent album closer. Overall, this album is very good and it branches out from the often pigeon-holed genre of roots reggae music. I am looking forward to hearing more material from Fikir Amlak upon returning to the music scene. Bless.
