  • My inspiration

    By nsj_3.14
At first, I liked classical and instrumental music a lot and I had heard Mars, and I also enjoyed doing science. Since I am approaching the stage of my life where I decide on a career, I wasn't sure whether or not to do something science or music related. Once I heard the Utah Symphony's performance of this, I immediately bought the album and have listened to it ever since. I now know that I want to be a music major in college all thanks to this collection of music :D The only thing I have against the album is the volume contrast. Many parts are too quiet, but I can easily fix that.
  • Beautiful

Ever sense I did the Jupiter song in band I've been addicted to his music I think it is so relaxing he really had a great talent and I hope to go to a concert were they are playing this series of songs.
  • Mars: Bringer of War

I wanted to talk about this one piece, even though the songs of all the planets are truly amazing! The theme for Mars songs like a song you would hear in a WWII movie, and it sounds EPIC! Big applaud for Gustav!
  • A masterpiece!

Holst had truly created the musical highlight of the 20th century. Perhaps such perfection may influence modern "music."

This music easily can come to life in even a non musicians head! That's how brilliant Holst is. I will say as a young violinist I had the musicians light bulb when playing Jupiter and it changed my life!! When you play it it becomes so connected to you that your hands are almost moving without your control and you can picture everything going on in the piece in your head!! The tone change in Jupiter is just ASTOUNDING! But hey earth and Mars are my runner ups! I agree this is so underrated and everyone who wants to be a successful musician should play this suite!!

So I’m sitting here listening to this on some really high end headphones, at the 1 minute mark in jupiter…you can hear a guy murmuring the rhythm….it’s bizarre and I’ve NEVER noticed it before.

This is the greatest recording of Holst's Planets ever! The energy, emotion and virtuosity in the playing is incomparable! Bravo Sir Colin & LSO
  • Glad I got it.

I was stuck between this performance by the LSO and the others on iTunes, but I'm glad I got this one!! Being a Star Wars fan, I love hearing the music John Williams was inspired by. Each piece gives me goosebumps. Absolutely love it! A great bargain.
