It's a really excellent documentary on the band up until and after the crash, but before the reunion. It's usually packaged with a video of the 1987 reunion concert that relaunched the band with Johnny Van Zant at the helm. This is a great chance to see the band at it's peak (although technically not the original lineup, Steve Gaines takes third axe position following Ed King - who rejoined the band in the reunion). Most of the footage was filmed in England, so it's a little surreal to see rebel flags flying there. All these songs are shown in their entirety and there's recorded interviews with the deceased band members along with live interviews of Gary Rossington and Artimus Pyle. Plenty of photos too. For any one with an open mind enough not to write off Skynyrd as a Southern Novelty Act or think the whole band was just about Freebird and Sweet Home, this is a great insight to a fantastic group of musicians and a meticulously melded sound prior to the 1977 tragedy. And if you're a Skynryd fan whose only picture of the band is the current lineup, this is definitely a must see to witness the genius of Ronnie Van Zant, the amazing chemistry of Rossington, Collins and Gaines, the underrated skill of Leon Wilkeson, the furious energy of Artimus Pyle and the downhome artistry of Billy Powell. My personal favorite cuts: T for Texas, Call Me the Breeze and Whiskey Rock-A-Roller. And the album couldn't start any better than with Workin' for MCA.

This album is truly the best album you can put your money down for when it comes to Skynyrd recordings of the original lineup. This soundtrack features all the songs peformed in the documentary that took you back to the days when Skynyrd's lineup was intact and before the plane crash. The performance on this soundtrack of "Freebird" is worth 9.99 alone.
