  • Penderecki / Radiohead - I grew up with both …...

I am an aging boomer, I first got into Penderecki and Polymorphism in my early twenties……I dug and and was the only person I knew at the time that liked the Polish super composer…..fast forward 25 years to the fabulously talented and educated Radiohead crew, and the Mr. Greenwood. I fell in love with Radiohead and when I watched There Will be Blood, I was floored by the soundtrack, along comes the NY Times Mag article in which Mr. Greenwood cracks a smilie when he meets Penderecki and gets an autographed score. The album is simply a wonderful concept of the younger tribute of the older with a talented twist. Jonny - your orchestration is a wonder and the Hiroshima and Polymorphism pieces are less cutting and severe to the ear compared to other recordings. Rather refreshing. Back in the 70's there were a set of Penderecki records that were great, including Kosmogonia and De Natura Sonoris II that were stunning and compelling, perhaps they can make a revival on CD and ITunes. Jonny G and I have something in common. I love every minute of it……..
