  • Gorgeous music, gorgeously played!

Brendel takes these pieces, which are programmed so frequently that they are in danger of becoming "trite" -- and plays them so gorgeously and so profoundly that it's almost like hearing them again for the first time. I don't always care for Brendel's playing, especially when he's playing very large-scale, technically exhausting pieces: but honestly, I cannot imagine anyone performing these impromptus better than Brendel. These are just about as close to sheer musical perfection as one is going to get. (I also purchased Brendel's recording of the Moments Musicaux: Brendel's performance of these pieces is equally as fine.)
