  • Perfect quality/tempo

I agree with ginsenbomb: the Academy of St. Martin's interpretations of Mozart are excellent because the audio quality is superb, but more importantly, they get the tempos just right. Other recordings are too slow or too fast in my opinion. I have bought their other Mozart recordings because of this. Their version of Symphony 25 (the first movement is featured in the Amadeus soundtrack) is the one that I like the best (Berstein's coming in second).
  • Don't pay attention to the 1 star review

Just read a 1 star review of this set because Symphony 38 was missing a movement. Ignorance on display. Symphony 38 only has three movements. Mozart left out the minuet by design. Buy this set, it's awesome!

May favorite orchestra, and my favorite symphonies! I love it. A must-buy. And wow, genius down there at the bottom. Nope, the 38th symphony only has three movements. I have seen the score and i have played the songs. There's not a problem with any of these pieces, so don't listen to him. Well, anyways. Mozart's last symphonies are definitely his best. Definitely the most beautiful. Just think what he could've accomplished if he lived to be just a bit older. . .

This is an incredible recording of Mozart symphonies. The 40th in particular is stunning; Marriner has interpreted the music, in my opinion, just how it was originally supposed to be interpreted. Another great St. Martin/Marriner recording!
  • The greatest symphonies ever written...

Two purposes for this review: praise the music, and offset the ill-informed 1-star rating plaguing this album. The music is Mozart, so, in other words, perfection. The sound quality is great, very crisp and clear. Marriner's and the Academy's interpretation are exciting and uplifting. Listen to the 39th symphony. It's a sonic blast! You won't regret buying this.

I'm partially giving this review to off-set the ridiculous 1-star rating given by an early reviewer. I'm mostly giving it in reflection of the actual quality of the performance and the recording, which is completely unsurpassed in my experience. When looking for Mozart, one is well-advised to seek out the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields and Sir Marriner.
  • Prague Symphony Missing a Movement

The music itself is very good, in my far from expert opinion, but the Prague symphony is missing a movement, so don't buy.
