The album review above is for the album "They Might Be Giants" by the band of the same name. This collection is SUPPOSED to be 5 great songs by the band, but unfortunately they appear more like they are 5 songs chosen at random from the extensive library by TMBG. There are much better songs out there, and you'd be better off buying the original albums these songs come from. For each of the albums represented here, I could easily have picked two or more "better" songs for a greatest hits collection like this. Check the rest of the selections before you buy this.

Itunes has mixed up the description of this EP and their self-titled album. The compilation is ok but every TMBG fan knows that a they might be giants best of piece would HAVE TO CONTAIN Birdhouse in Your Soul, Don't Let's Start, and Ana Ng
  • Not the album in the description

The description here is not for Rhino's "HiFive They Might Be Giants." Not only are the songs listed in the description not found on this release, it doesn't even contain any "early" They Might Be Giants. The "earliest" songs on this compilation, PARTICLE MAN, INSTANBUL, and YOUR RACIST FRIEND are all from "Flood," their third full length album. And the cover of "New York City" is on They Might Be Giants 6th album. It is not a very comprehensive representation of They Might Be Giants -as it wouldn't be with 3 of the 5 songs being from one album. And it is certainly not a compilation that is at all representative of what fans would think of as the early years. The "Flood" album is a great album and you should just buy that. And for earlier TMBG buy "Lincoln" and their self-titled first release, which are both great albums. This compilation is arbitrary and pointless.
  • Shallow Best of, not really Best at all

They Might Be Giants is a brilliant band, but this Rhino Hits record serves no goodness. All but one song in this entire album are in some form a cover, and the one that is not, the ever famous "Particle Man", does barely any justice. If you really are in need of a best of album, get the other two, bith which are a part of some of the best compilations ever.

I don't understand what these other people are complaing about. Sure, it doesn't cover the Big Hits or the Rarities as some of the other compilations do, but the songs on here are certainly top notch. The first is the infamous Particle Man, and the next 3 are personal favorites while Racist Friend is a fine enough song as well. If you have something like Then: The Earlier Years or something like 5-10 songs that just includes their most renowned works, then this would be a perfect way to begin the next step in getting to know TMBG.

I dont see how ANY TMBG fan could EVER criticize a cd put out by the best band ever. So what if their songs are short. They still are beautiful. I dont see how any of the other comments make sense. Any They Might Be Giants cd is a magnificent work of art.

Rhino doesn't miss TMBG by much here, but why bother doing a Rhino Hi-Five collection for them? They're songs are already really short to begin with. Why is "Your Racist Friend" on here instead of "Birdhouse in Your Soul" or "Ana Ng"? If you want to get introduced to TMBG, I suggest looking at another small playlist besides this one. I reccomend my "Intro to TMBG" iMix for beginners.
  • I think I know what this is.

I think Rhino Hi-Five is a five-song mix, selected by Rhino Entertainment, of a particular artist. I bet there are more of them somewhere.

I'm not seeing the point of this release. Is it to capture "new" fans for TMBG? And if so, what a paltry offering. Anyone wanting an intro to TMBG should pony up a little extra dough and get ahold of Lincoln, then branch out to the other stuff from there. This ep does a serious disservice to the genius that is the two Johns. I have to rate this low because of the sheer befuddlement it causes, not based as a reflection of the songs it contains.
  • TMBG are awesome, but...

This selection of songs is rather disappointing considering the vast catalogue TMBG have complied over the years.
