I love Mellencamp, but this is boring. The same 2 chords over and over. His voice is shot.

I think the eye patch tells the story. There's more to a good song than just the lyrics. It has to mesh with the tunes. These 'tunes' are not very memorable. It's great that musicians try to express their feelings but the tunes and lyrics should match up. This was described as a "roots rock" collection. I don't hear the 'rock'. This was editied down form 30 songs. If these were the best, what exactly were the worst!

Not bad! Could care less about his politics. But his voice sounds “ off”? Only my opinion. I like the rainbow track& “lie to me” & of course the Bruce tracks but his voice sounds….. not sure what the word is? Hope he’s ok? I like Rocker John of the old days.

I mean, as far as rip-offs go, he's always ripped off the best. I used to unequivocally hate him, but he has earned my grudging respect over the years.
  • Disappointing!

This one is tough to listen to. Stick to painting and lib political trash talk. I'm sure I speak for many!

Every time I see new music pop up from John, I say please let it be something good. Unfortunately, there's been nothing worth a listen in decades. This one is no exception. Why is it that so many great rock artists from the 70's and 80's are no longer able to produce anything good and that includes Bruce. I miss Tom Petty! He always stayed true to his roots!
  • JC as an aging adult

Love the songs, love the words, love the voice. No, it's not the voice of the youngster from all those years ago, but d@mn it's good. Reminds me a bit of an aging Cash, Kristofferson, or Tom W. Politics? his songs have been political since day one. and let's not forget Farm Aid. If you don't like the album or the songs or the voice, maybe you are the one who hasn't grown over the years. Think about that for a bit.

Sounds like a bad Tom Waits impersonation!
